GITEX Africa: Huawei reiterates its commitment to unlocking Africa’s digital potential
[Marrakech, Morocco, May 30, 2023] The first edition of GITEX Africa will open its doors in the city of Marrakech, Morocco, from May 31 to June 2, 2023. A flagship meeting place, the largest exhibition dedicated to technology and start-ups from Africa has set itself the mission of strengthening cooperation and partnerships in digital transformation on the continent and thus shaping the vision of a more connected, inclusive and sustainable digital economy. Among the key players present at this meeting, Huawei, as a Platinum partner, reaffirms its commitment to unlocking the potential of digital in order to guide Africa towards new and even more promising horizons.
More than 30 government delegations, 250 speakers, some 250 global investors and 900 companies and start-ups are expected to attend this summit to showcase their innovations. During these three days, all the actors present will express themselves and discuss the opportunities and unlimited potential offered by new technologies, but also on the challenges related to digital transformation in Africa, including connectivity, digital divide or regulation. The event will also offer a whole program of inspiring conferences on topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainable development, access to energy and cybersecurity.
At Huawei, many experts will share their expertise and perspectives on the role that new technologies can and should play in Africa’s future. Thus, Tonny Bao, Vice President of Huawei, will deliver a speech on May 31 titled « Unlocking the Digital Potential for a New Africa ». That same day, Youssef Ait Kaddour, Chief Cybersecurity & Privacy Officer at Huawei Morocco, will address the importance of redefining the role of Information Systems Security Officers, in a context where disruptive technologies such as cloud computing and AI drives companies to stand out. As for Charlly Li, Vice President Cloud Ecosystem & Partner Development at Huawei Northern Africa, he will discuss the Huawei Cloud Start-Up Program deployed in several countries on the continent in order to accompany and support the projects of young entrepreneurs thanks to the mobilization of human and technological resources.
In addition, in order to strengthen ties with its partners, Huawei will organize two major events, the « Northern Africa Partners Conference 2023 » and the « Huawei Cloud Northern Africa Partners ». Both will be held on Thursday, June 1
Finally, during GITEX Africa, the company will also launch new products and solutions. The event will also see the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy of Guinea Conakry and Huawei.A gala dinner will also be held on Wednesday, May 31 in the presence of Terry He, President of Huawei Northern Africa, and Colin Hu, President Enterprise & Cloud of Huawei Northern Africa. The latter will speak in particular about Huawei’s strategy in Africa for the year 2023. This dinner will also count on the presence of eminent participants, including representatives of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, NAS Egypt, Smart Africa, the Digital Development Agency (ADD) of Morocco and the operator Ethio Telecom.
Making the African continent the center of digital excellence as well as a land of opportunities and investments, such is the mission of this major meeting, but also the ambition shared by Huawei. By participating in the first edition of GITEX Africa, the company wants to promote Africa as a competitive technological continent on the international scene and highlight African skills in the digital sector.
